The Riverside County Department of Mental Health is the largest mental health awareness and treatment program in the county.5 The departments three main programs, Substance Abuse Services, Mental Health Services, and Public Guardians Office, work together to provide culturally sensitive services to individuals suffering from psychological disorders and mental illness.
The Departments Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) of 2005 was designed to increase funding for mental health services in the county by implementing a 1% tax on residents who have a personal income over $1 million. Since its implementation, the quality and variety of mental health services available in La Quinta and the rest of Riverside County has improved consistently.
